On April 9 in the town of Yaroslavl, with the organizational and communicational support of R.I.M. Porter Novelli, the ceremonial launch of the new node for access to the exchange of national telecommunications operator OJSC Rostelecom took place. The agency organized both a press-tour of the node site for federal mass media, and a press conference for journalists from the Yaroslavl Region in which participated Rostelecom deputy general director and director of the central branch of the company, Vyacheslav Smit, and Yaroslavl Region governor Sergey Vakhrukov. The press-conference was chaired by Oleg Poletaev, R.I.M Porter Novelli Account Director and IT & Telecoms Practice Leader.

The new node has allowed the topology of the Rostelecom network in the region to be optimized, the carrying capacity of the company’s telecommunication channel to be increased to up to three gigabytes per second, the process of building geographically spaced-apart networks over the whole of the territory of Russia and beyond its borders to be optimized, and also the spectrum of services delivered to users, including high-speed access to the Internet, to be broadened.

The new access node being put into operation is an important step towards the realization of Rostelecom’s complex program to increase the power of its own trunk telecommunications network and provision to users in the regions of Russia the most up-to-date telecommunications services. In particular, the development of its own network allows to more effectively develop and implement the “Electronic Government” project, the sole provider of which is, as per a decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, Rostelecom.

Yaroslavl Region governor Sergey Vakhrukov said: “I am convinced that the new node will allow lots of companies to take a whole new look at the use of information technology, because new capabilities have arisen to provide new and interesting services. Besides, due to the new node the investment attractiveness of the region is markedly improved, since to bring about a lot of investment projects a developed communications infrastructure is required; at the same time a lot depends on investors for the creation of new jobs in the region.” The governor also emphasized the importance of the new node for the realization of the Electronic Government state program.
